A Smart Streetlight

What if streetlights only turned on when they were needed and turned off when they weren't. I'm not just talking about when it's light out or dark out, what if they were only used when there was someone near by who actually needed them? Why do we spend so much collective energy lighting up streets even when they are empty? A project I worked on recently for a client aimed to fix that problem. Streetlights don't need to be on when there is nobody around who needs light to see. So what if they knew when somebody was around... With this new sensor I helped design, they can. This new sensor can see when a person, vehicle, or animal is near by and can choose to turn on the lights or in the case of a harmless animals about, choose not too. This innovative solution saves energy and limits unnecessary light pollution. The sensor housing is waterproof and fully adjustable. Once installed it can be set to be looking in the optimal direction for maximum efficiency. A bidirectional sensor housing is in the work as well.
